If I Could Fly was developed while undertaking the First Peoples residency program at the Bundanon Trust in 2019.

The artist acknowledges and pays deep respects to the Yuin Peoples on whose ancestral Lands this work was produced

In an intensifying and security-conscious global context, it may be said that the principles of reciprocity and exchange once relative to cultural values and societal norms have escalated beyond the mode of hyper vigilance. In this environment the manifestation of physical and psychological boundaries are rapidly evolving; within discipline, geographically, internally structured and/or imagined. Together, we regularly trust and adhere to conceptual perimeters that are extremely abstract and have enormous impacts on our ways of being, yet can be seldom understood.

If I Could Fly is a site-specific body of work that uses experimental performance and a multiverse of medium to speak to the invisibility of dynamic geo-political systems at work and play within the restricted airspace of HMAS Albatross (the Fleet Air Arm). Here the artist gently negotiates the Bundanon Trust and the Boyd Dynasty in deep thought, while seeking connection to ones self, Yuin Country, and in attempt to reflect an image of those who share it.

This is a place where you need permission to fly.
