Conceptual artist Dale Collier fuses hyper-objects with digital technology in attempt to perform contemporary historical and environmental critique while re-examining their role as a First Nations artist, activist and ally. Dale's work utilises intertextuality to challenge and interrogate postcolonial frameworks, contemporary falsehoods, nationalistic propaganda and northern European convict settler tradition. While often manifesting as institutional critique, their site-specific practice traverses between live spaces of key cultural, geo-political and ecological security in order to address global conditioning. Dale was raised off Country in the Yuin Nation and now resides between the Wonnarua, Worimi & Darkinjung Nations.
The trajectory of Dale's practice as an emerging and experimental artist continues to develop alongside an extensive exhibition history and while gaining significant recognition. With a skill-set that encompasses sound, writing, video, installation and performance, Dale has established a strong trans-disciplinary approach that is highly regarded within the context of collaborative projects and public programs across multiple cultural organisations, community networks and educational institutions.
In 2010 Dale graduated with 1st class honours in a Bachelor of Digital Media from the Queensland College of Art receiving the Award for Academic Excellence. Collier has won numerous awards including the Margaret Olley Post Graduate Art Scholarship Award, University of Newcastle 2014; the Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling scholarship facilitated by Maitland Regional Art Gallery 2016 and The Annual Student Art Prize, Wattspace student Gallery 2017. Dale was also recently awarded the 2019 Windmill Trust Scholarship to deliver a reciprocal project between Broken Hill and Newcastle in 2020.
